Petit Jean State Park is located near Morrilton, Arkansas just northwest of Little Rock. We visited here for
the first time over the kids spring break, and spent three days hiking, exploring, and enjoying the beautiful
scenery.

Petit Jean is a beautiful sate park located in northcentral Arkansas. This is a gorgeous area with tall pine
trees, scenic bluffs, crystal clear creeks, water falls, tons of interesting rock formations and caves. The
park contains 125 individual campsites and accepts reservations. Campsites can accommodate tents,
trailers or RVs, and most of these have water and electric hookups. The bathrooms have flush toilets and
nice shower areas, and while we were there they were very clean and well kept. The campsites are
located in a heavily wooded area, with no underbrush, kind of a park like setting.

In addition to campsites, there are many cabins available to rent at Petit Jean State Park, and Mather
Lodge offers 24 guestrooms. There is also a restaurant at Mather Lodge that offers spectacular views.
After a long day of hiking we stopped by the restaurant for dessert, and relaxed and enjoyed the view.

If you like fishing or water sports then Lake Bailey is located just past the visitor center. For hikers, there
are around 20 miles of interconnected trails. The
hiking trails are well marked and maintained, and
provide access to some wonderful scenery. These range from short 1/4 mile hikes to long 12 mile hikes,
with many others in between. Even though you go up and down in elevation, most of these trails are not
difficult, and there are many resting spots along the way.

During our stay, we hiked the Cedar Falls Trail, Cedar Creek Trail, the Bear Cave Trail, the Rock House
Cave Trail, the Seven Hollows Trail down to the Natural Bridge, and visited the Cedar Falls Overlook.  The
scenery was absolutely magnificent, and we had a wonderful time. Here are some pictures that were
taken during our trip (March, 2009).
